LWTL: Tell us about your business!
AK: Krystal Fit is a boutique Power Plate Studio located in South Granville. Every workout is customized to your individual needs and goals. We offer your choice of 30 Minute or 1 hour sessions to accommodate all fitness levels and the busiest of lifestyles. All Krystal Fit trainers are certified and professional so you are guaranteed to be challenged while having fun! With my passion for health and fitness, I have always wanted to create a space where I could help motivate and keep people focused on their fitness goals. Many women have expressed to me how they often feel intimidated working out in a public gym setting, so, I have aimed to build a welcoming, personalized environment where women can feel comfortable and in turn really push themselves leaps and bounds in their fitness goals.
LWTL: Very inspiring! If you could trade places with anyone for one day who would it be and why?
AK: Jane Fonda! Who didn’t love doing her workouts when they were younger? She was so full of energy, positivity and wore the hottest workout outfits (haha). She had many injuries over her career yet she never let that stop her from getting back into the gym, and that’s something I find inspiring. It would definitely be a blast to be her for a day!
LWTL: Those leotards were very stylish back in the day indeed. Name a woman who inspires you and tell us why?
AK: My mother. My passion for fitness came from her. I grew up watching her teach fitness classes and saw first-hand how great fitness can make people feel. I knew if I too could help to spread wellness to others, then I could make a difference in people’s lives.
LWTL: Way to go, mom! If you could tell your 16 year-old self something what would it be?
AK: I would tell myself not to care as much what others think. Everyone has their own morals, values and philosophies and I have mine, yet it’s important to not let others influence your decisions based on their beliefs.
LWTL: Virtue & Vice?
AK: Definitely coffee – I drink way too much, but waking up at 4am means you need a few to keep you going through out the day (with no sugar of course). Oh, and cinnamon buns… yes, they are unhealthy but I can’t resist! My favourite cinnamon buns are from a cute bakery on Beach Ave called Tartine. When my best friend is in town we tend to indulge a little…
LWTL: What song is playing while you’re getting ready for a night out on the town?
AK: John Mayor “Gravity”, I love to sing it at the top of my lungs and I listen to it every morning while I walk to work and while hanging at home – it just makes me happy! I also love Benny Benassi “Cinema” – the slow and acoustic version by Jason Evigan is my wedding song! The upbeat version also helps get me pumped up and ready for a night out on the town or for a good long cardio session at the gym!
LWTL: How do you define success?
AK: Success is doing what you love, your job should never feel too much like work.
LWTL: We love that definition. What’s been the most difficult part about living your passion, and what advice would you give to others?
AK: Being an entrepreneur, starting your own business and building a clientele isn’t for everyone and can be very stressful. I am lucky to have the most amazing clients and watching them reach their goals makes it all worth it. I always leave work feeling amazing and that diminishes any sort of stress. The rewards serve as fuel to keep me going.

AK: My dog Wally!
LWTL: What are you most proud of?
