As we prepare ourselves for the season of rejuvenation, it’s time to put forth our energy on some annual spring-cleaning! At the Elletourage office, we want to help you avoid harmful chemicals and provide some natural cleaning remedies that will leave your home happy, healthy and squeaky-green-clean!

Because it can be overwhelming in terms of where to begin and what products to use, we have created a spring-cleaning guide that will help revitalize your home with household ingredients.

Give your home a facelift with these environmentally friendly cleaning tips:

For the bathroom

Not to our surprise, the toilet is perceived as one of the most dreaded (and unpleasant) objects to clean. Naturally, we turn to chlorine bleach when we want a promising antibacterial product; it’s important, however, to steer clear from its harmful toxins. As an alternative, we suggest that you mix a tablespoon of baking soda with half a cup of vinegar. Let the mixture sit in the toilet for about 30 minutes before wiping. If you add a half-cup of natural liquid soap, this homemade recipe works well for all bathroom surfaces.

For the kitchen

Believe it or not, there are more bacteria lurking in your kitchen than the bathroom! To freshen things up, unload everything from the fridge (including shelves) and wipe down the interior with a mixture that contains 2 tablespoons baking soda and 1 quart warm water. Avoid soap and detergent since food is likely to absorb the smell of these products. Disinfect the sink with a baking soda and vinegar concoction: make sure the kitchen sink is wet while sprinkling baking soda over the surface and line the sink with paper towels that have been soaked in white vinegar. Before doing a final rinse with soapy water, let paper towels sit for 20 minutes for a sparkling clean result.

For the bedroom & living room

To help combat those household dust bunnies, we recommend using a microfiber dry mop since they are machine washable and a good eco-friendly alternative to other wipes or disposable options. For an air freshener that marks the end of your housework, we love these all-natural recipes that will leave your home smelling mmm mmm, spring-clean!

Following these suggestions will not only expose you to a greener and brighter future, but will also save you a great deal of shopping time and money. Happy spring-cleaning!
