We love the month of June. Summer is merely weeks away, the sun is shining, flowers are in bloom and some of the yummiest fruits and vegetables are in season.

Another great thing about June is the amount of salad recipes circuiting through our favourite culinary blogs and websites. While winter is for heavy soups and stews, summer is the perfect time to indulge in a variety of greens that will satisfy your appetite without heating up the kitchen.

Here are a handful of salad recipes that are both delicious and worthy of a full meal; each can all be roughly altered to fit dietary needs or to work with what veggies are currently in your fridge. Try one each for each week of June and let us know which you liked best!

1. Spring Chopped Salad

This well-rounded salad has a variety of ingredients from all food groups. Adding a handful of herbs in with the base greens creates a fresh and clean taste and the salami added a savoury and salty element!

2. Brussel Sprouts Salad

We love brussel sprouts; they are insanely good for you and there is so many ways to prepare them. With crispy brussels are currently trending as a side dish in many restaurants, here is a healthier and easy way to prepare them at home!

3. Quinoa, Apple and Avocado Salad with Crispy Bacon

Big Girls Small Kitchen has got to be one of our favourite food blogs. Written, designed and photographed all by foodie guru Cara Eisenpress, she creates unique dishes for both the college beginner and the seasoned chef and there is something for everybody in her recipe box. I mean, both bacon and fruit in a salad can really do no wrong – right?

4. Spicy Watermelon Salad

The mixture of flavor dimensions in this fruit/veg hybrid salad is interesting: crisp watermelon mixed with smooth avocado and a touch of heat creates the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. Pair with a glass of sauvignon blanc and impress your girlfriends with a sophisticated lunch!
